Waterfront

When I say I want waterfront property this isn't what I mean. (Those boards in the lower right is the kids swingset.)


I was picturing a beautiful lake or pond. NOT the woods next to my house flooding because of massive amounts of rain and melting snow The pictures really don't capture the full effect, mostly because I refused to leave the shelter of the porch. You can't tell from the pictures it is pouring rain and windy and cold. Normally in the spring there is a little vernal stream that runs through here maybe six inches wide. As you can see it is a wee bit more water than that right now.


And here is my goofy dog who doesn't seem to care that it is windy, rainy and cold as long as he can lie right down and chew on a bone. Gross story to go along with that bone he is chewing on. It is part of a deer leg that mysteriously showed up in our driveway earlier this week. And when I say deer leg I mean hoof, skin, fur all still attached. And It really isn't a mystery, I think the dog found it in the woods somewhere and brought it home to snack on. We disposed of the leg but he found this smaller piece that he's been chewing on and as long as he doesn't bring it in the house I really don't care.


I'd like to walk out back to the big river and see how high that is but did I mention it's cold, rainy and windy out and I don't think it would be very much fun.

Sun-Wherefor Art Thou?

Yes, we needed the rain. And we got rain all day Wednesday, all day Thursday and now today is Friday. And it's still raining.
Be gone ye clouds of darkness that pour forth rivers of wetness that imprison me inside. It maketh my brain moldy and unable to thinketh clearly. It maketh me spew forth nonsensical drivel in the form of bad Shakespearean prose.
I need to see the sun and I need to go outside. After three days of rain, make that cold haven't gotten out of the 40s rain, I can't motivate myself to do anything. Dom walked into the kitchen this morning to find me staring blankly at the coffee maker. Luckily he gave me clue and told me I needed a cup. Thank goodness he rescued me or I still might be standing there!
So if you see the sun please tell him I am in need of his warm healing rays to lead me out of the darkness and into the light.

Hurry up Spring

This weekend we got a taste of spring with temps in the 50s. We enjoyed a nice visit with mom and dad at their house. It was nice to sit out on the deck with no coat. The girls enjoyed playing outside in the yard and Toby enjoyed following them around. Today was another beautiful day and the girls were outside for 2 hours straight. We have to enjoy it while it lasts because it is supposed to snow again tomorrow. I am getting tired of this pattern of it warming up, we get significant melting and then it snows and we get it all back again! Hurry up Spring!

Free Snow- take all you want!!

So according to the news we have the most snow in a season in 134 years with 115.2 inches. That means that there are people who have lived their whole life and never seen this much snow. How lucky are we to be experiencing such a phenomenon?? I have no idea, but lucky probably isn't what most people are thinking since it is almost April and we have snow measured in feet still sitting in our yard.

For all of you not "lucky" enough to have had this experience let me share some pictures of what record breaking snow fall looks like...

And because we can't do anything about all the snow the best we can do is try to enjoy it the best way we can as Dom demonstrates here.....

Riders on the Storm

So it has been a crazy couple of days here. It was very much like the Mother's day floods of last year but I think it was actually worse. It started out with about 3-4 inches of snow on Sunday and then during the night turned to torrential downpours which turned into major flooding. Our road is washed out in both directions though with four wheel drive it is passable. Dom had gone out with the Focus yesterday morning and couldn't drive it back home because the roads were that bad. They had school yesterday, but I kept Becca home because the road was bad in the morning and I knew it was only going to get worse. They ended up closing school early and today there is no school. The National Guard was called in too. Many, many roads and bridges are closed in Farmington as well as all over the state. These pictures are the road in front of the house.

We did lose electricity for a short time. Our phone was out for several hours too, as well as cable and internet, so for a short time we felt a bit isolated. No cellpone reception out here either.

The snow did cause the water to back up in front of the garage and begin to leak inside but once we cleared the snow out of the way the water was able to drain.
